The policy was approved at the council meeting on Monday evening and will come into effect this summer
The Guardamar del Segura council meeting approved the introduction of a ‘zona azul’ pay and display parking system along the seafront in the town centre from Avenida Ingeniero Codorniú to urbanisation Benamor, including Avenidas Cervantes and Libertad and adjacent streets in between.
The measure approved by the Partido Popular majority is part of its policy of economic restructuring and rationalisation of municipal infrastructures. Thanks to its introduction and management by a contracted company, which will put up the 273,000 euros required to implement the service, the town hall will receive some significant income that will be used for maintenance of the beaches.
The town hall explained that the introduction of the zona azul will also improve traffic management during those months when there is the biggest influx of tourists and will optimise the rotation of vehicles with the creation of 850 parking spaces, preventing some spaces from being permanently occupied by the same vehicle throughout the whole summer. In the case of residents in these areas, they will have the right to park at no cost in a 500 metre radius of their home.
